Dear P.S. 33 School Community,
We are reaching out with a reminder of our school’s drop-off and pick-up protocols. Please look over the
following information and we thank you in advance for working with us to make this procedure as
smooth as possible.
  • Please do not double-park your car when you arrive to drop-off or pick-up students at school.
  • Please do not block the driveways of the homes along the perimeter of the school building.
  •  Please do not park along the school perimeter on 92 Ave. Our school buses drop-off and pick-up students along this stretch of road and must be able to line up along the curb.
  • Whenever possible, please find parking in an area beyond the immediate perimeter of the school building so that traffic can move freely during these crucial times (7:50 am – 8:15 am & 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm).
  •  Please note that P.S. 33 does not have any control over the ticketing of cars left double parked or parked illegally. There are several times during the course of the day where police units will do routine sweeps of the area and will enforce traffic laws. We hope that no members of our school community are ticketed. Please know that we cannot control the decisions made by the NYPD.
These measures are necessary to maintain the safety and welfare of not only our student body, but our
school community as a whole. We thank you for your continued understanding and patience. We realize
that it is not always easy to find parking during these peak hours. Any consideration you can give to
helping alleviate the congestion during drop-off and pick-up is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Mr. Vincent Gatto

Parent Letter Regarding Arrival and Dismissal

Dear Families,
I do hope this letter finds you and your families happy and in great health. I would like to share some information to help families make the decision whether to drive their children to school, walk or use public transportation.

First, as a reminder, P.S. 33 opens its doors at 8:00 a.m. for all students with teachers in all grades ready to receive students in their classrooms. As previously mentioned we have staff members along the way to assist and assure their safe arrival to their classrooms. Parents should not drop off their students prior to 8:00am, leaving them unsupervised, without a responsible adult accompanying them until the doors open and their health screening form is reviewed.

We take the safety of our students, families and staff as a top priority in addition to their academic success. With that being said, those families who drive their children to school should be mindful and adhere to the traffic laws set in place. Double parking not only backs up traffic but also prohibits the school buses to get to their pick up/drop off location for our students. Please do not park in a no parking zone area as it can and will result in being ticketed, this includes double parking, leaving your car idling and unattended.

Since we have over 800 students in our school community from Pre-K to 5th grade, not only did we assign each grade their own entrance to make the morning drop and afternoon pick up safer and organized; but we staggered the dismissal time. This plan was in the hopes to ease the traffic flow, diminish or eliminate possible accidents, traffic jams and so on.

All students are being dismissed at the same entrance where they are dropped off each morning. Each class has a designated area where parents should pick up their child at the end of the day; no later than 2:20pm. Dismissal times for each grade begin at the following times:

Pre-K: 2pm
Kindergarten and First Grade: 2:05pm
Second and Third Grade: 2:10pm
Fourth and Fifth Grade: 2:15pm

Thank you for your understanding, patience and cooperation. Please do not hesitate to contact me, any of my two Assistant Principals, Mr. Arduini or Mr. Thielen, or our Parent Coordinator, Mrs. Maldonado; if you should have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Principal Gatto
